A lot of things have been said about these batteries on the Robot Wars Forum. Here are a couple of my favorites:

The cells are for real, and here is a picture of them (I know it's not much). BlueStar provided us with a test pack to make sure that the cells could handle the abuse Mr Smashy would dish out. In testing, using a temperature sensor circuit, the LiSO2 cells performed just fine. There were no worries about them exploding and they were drawing 20 amps without breaking a sweat. I found out that Robotica was canceled just before I talked to the guys at BlueStar about shipping them down to SF (as you can't take them in a car). If there is a competition, Mr Smashy will be using these batteries.
